Homemade “Nice Cream”: 4 Recipes For Summer

Are you trying to avoid dairy, but love the taste of ice cream? With summer here, you don't have to give it up entirely: Try making your own nice cream instead. Nice cream is basically vegan ice cream made from plant based ingredients. You won't have to worry about these recipes upsetting your stomach - plus they'll actually be good for your health. 

Before you make these recipes though, I encourage you to always use fresh, locally sourced produce whenever possible. If bananas aren’t local to you, that’s fine—just purchase them organic. Also, I mention frozen bananas a lot as the base of the ice cream. To freeze your bananas, simply peel them, chop them up, and put them into a glassware container. Do your best to avoid using plastic disposable baggies, so you can be kinder to the environment. Glass won’t break in the freezer either, so you don’t have anything to worry about. If you don’t have glassware, try using a mason jar—or anything is better than disposable baggies. Leave them in the freezer overnight so they get nice and hard. When the bananas are completely frozen, you can take them out and use them to make these recipes.  


Berry Nice Cream 

Love your daily dose of berries? This fruity nice cream will certainly make you a happy camper then.  



  • 2 frozen bananas 
  • 1/8 cup fresh raspberries 
  • 1/8 cup fresh strawberries 
  • 1/8 cup fresh blueberries 
  • 1/8 cup white chocolate chips 



  1. Mix the frozen bananas with the raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and white chocolate chips in a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
  2. Once blended completely smooth, you can serve right away and garnish with some fresh berries, if you like. Or, freeze it for 30 to 40 minutes for a thicker consistency, if preferred.  


Chocolate Nice Cream 

Nothing beats the classic taste of chocolate ice cream, right? Well, this recipe will certainly give you the same satisfaction, without any of the unhealthy gut problems to follow.  



  • 2 frozen bananas 
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 
  • 3 Tablespoons cocoa powder 
  • pinch salt, optional 



  1. Mix the frozen bananas, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and salt in a blender until smooth. For double the chocolate, feel free to add some chocolate chips as well, or as a garnish. Serve and enjoy. 


Matcha Mint Chip Nice Cream 

If you enjoy minty chocolate chip ice cream, you’re bound to love this rendition. The matcha adds a unique twist to this old classic, and it’s plenty tasty. 



  • 2 frozen bananas 
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips 
  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder 
  • 1 drop peppermint extract 
  • 1 drop natural food coloring 
  • mint garnish, optional 



  1. Mix frozen bananas, peppermint extract, dark chocolate chips and matcha powder in the blender until smooth. You can add a drop or two of natural green food coloring if you so desire. Garnish with mint leaves, if you like. 


Vanilla Nice Cream 

Nothing beats the classic flavor of vanilla, am I right? Growing up, vanilla was always my favorite. However, conventional vanilla ice cream would never sit well in my tummy. Good thing for nice cream! I can still get my fill of vanilla ice cream, without any of the unhealthy side effects. 



  • 2 frozen bananas 
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste 
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup, optional



  1. Mix frozen bananas and vanilla bean paste in a blender until smooth. Serve and enjoy.
