DIY Beauty: Yogurt Face Masks For Summer

Summer means a zillion skin issues. Like we cool our bodies by eating yogurt, we can use it to cool off our sunburned skin as well…

Yogurt is an excellent food to eat—as long as you are not allergic or lactose intolerant. The probiotic bacteria in yogurt are a heat quencher for the gut, and they aid in digestion as well as optimum absorption of nutrients. So why is yogurt so good for the skin?

Well, the lactic acid is an excellent exfoliator that can lighten dark spots, and the zinc and calcium in the yogurt reduce inflammation and aid in skin healing as well. Additionally, yogurt is rich in B vitamins, which act as emollients or moisture-trapping chemicals. Finally, the antioxidants in yogurt help in reducing oxidization and slow down the accursed process of aging—making the skin look younger, brighter, fairer, and just overall happier.

Yogurt & Honey Toning Mask

The combination of these ingredients cleanses your skin of any bacteria or foreign irritants, helps soothe any existing inflammation, and gives your skin a protective layer that prevents any further acne or irritation from happening.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup thick or pre-hung yogurt
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 4-5 crushed or pureed basil leaves

Directions

  1. Mix all four ingredients and apply generously to the face, neck, décolletage and anywhere you are acne or skin irritation-prone.

Yogurt & Coffee Revitalizer

Is your skin feeling tired? This mask not only exfoliates and soothes skin, but the caffeine in it also revs up tired looking skin and makes it look brighter. Coffee also targets any and all water retention on the skin, making the skin look “tighter” and lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup thick or pre-hung yogurt
  • 2 Tablespoons coffee grounds
  • 5-6 drops lemon juice

Directions

  1. Mix the three ingredients and apply generously on face, neck and décolletage, or mix up a bigger batch and use it as a body wrap.

Yogurt & Oats Creamy Mask

This mask acts as a great exfoliator as well and sloughs away rough skin to reveal a youthful visage.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup thick or pre-hung yogurt
  • 2 Tablespoons cream
  • 2 Tablespoons raw oats

Directions

  1. Mix the three ingredients and apply onto skin.
  2. Wait for the mask to start drying or firming up a bit—about 10-15 minutes in total.
  3. Now rub it off gently, wetting a little with water if need be to reveal skin that’s as fresh as fresh can be.

Happy summers to you, with no skin problems!
